Findings from new study suggest AlphaWave® L-Theanine may improve stress in healthy adults

London, Ontario (May 22, 2024) – A new study, conducted by KGK Science Inc. (London, Ontario, Canada) and published in Neurology and Therapy, finds supplementation with AlphaWave® L-Theanine (AlphaWave®) may help reduce stress in healthy adults who are moderately stressed.

AlphaWave® has been previously shown to have a calming effect after a single dose when healthy adults were exposed to a stressor. This new study suggests these effects may occur after longer term supplementation as well.

Importantly, both studies, which were developed and conducted in partnership with KGK Science, Inc., the leader in clinical research for the natural health product industry, showed supplementation with AlphaWave® was safe and well tolerated in the studied populations.

“Stress is something everyone can relate to on some level,” said Najla Guthrie, CEO at KGK Science. “A safe food ingredient, AlphaWave® L-Theanine, was tested in a gold standard randomized controlled trial to determine whether it reduced perceived stress and improved attention in a healthy population.”

This randomized, double-blind, parallel clinical trial enrolled 30 adults between 18 and 65 years of age who were supplemented with AlphaWave® or Placebo for 28 days. This study showed participants supplemented with AlphaWave® reported significant improvements in their self-perceived and self-reported stress after 28 days compared to baseline.

Findings also showed significant improvements in attention after 14 and 28 days of supplementation with AlphaWave® while those on placebo had a significant improvement after 28 days only. In addition, with the improved cognitive attention, the AlphaWave group also demonstrated a significant decrease in light sleep at Days 14 and 28 compared to the Placebo group.

This latest published clinical study represents another important step in demonstrating a link between daily AlphaWave® L-Theanine supplementation and positive effects on perceived stress and attention in healthy populations.
